“Instead of competing by building new features or devices, they are fighting through litigation.”

This was just over a month ago when David Drummond, Chief Legal Officer at Google took on defensive crying about companies like Apple, Microsoft and RIM acquiring auctioned patents for the sole purpose of hurting Android.

In Mac OSX lion holding a keyboard key reveals a contextual menu allowing you to choose different variations of the character. This happens to be a major annoyance for me since I don’t really use that feature. So here is how you can disable it using a terminal command if you decide to revert back the typical performance of repeating characters while you’re holding the key.

Just run the Terminal.app and enter the following command.

defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool false

This will disable Lion’s contextual pop up menu when you long hold a key for repeating characters.

Obviously this is most surprising to Adobe. So they have responded:

Apple’s announcement today that it has lifted restrictions on its third-party developer guidelines has direct implications for Adobe’s Packager for iPhone, a feature in the Flash Professional CS5 authoring tool. This feature was created to enable Flash developers to quickly and easily deliver applications for iOS devices. The feature is available for developers to use today in Flash Professional CS5, and we will now resume development work on this feature for future releases.

They also note in a wet-eyed fashion:

We do want to point out that Apple’s restriction on Flash content running in the browser on iOS devices remains in place.

Cry as much as you please. Flash is not getting into iOS.

But with all that, it seems like the folks at Adobe are having a great day, and since the news broke their stock has gone up by 12%.

The spammer used a genius technique of hiding the “Like” button behind a line of text that uninformed users would mistake for a normal link. By doing so the users unknowingly “Liked” the spam page.

Another round of similar scam has been spreading virally over Facebook. When clicked, users are tricked by a warning message claiming the page they are about to access contains content “inappropriate for some users” and that it “may contain shocking graphics, nudity or disrespect other individuals.” The warning message is designed to look like an official warning from Facebook.

Cheerleaders Gone Wild Another ClickJacking Scam Hits Facebook

It’s during the fake verification when the user clicks to “Confirm” their age, they also unknowingly click the “Like” button hidden behind the “Confirm” button. This signs you up for the “Cheerleaders Gone Wild” page, and invisibly you are confirming to “Like” other pages such as, “Funniest Videos On the Web” and “Free ringtones every day.”

If you are on a PC you can quickly customize the icon by going to the properties of the iTunes shortcut and changing the icon from the customize tab. If you are on a Mac it’s a bit tricky, because the default way of changing an application or folder icon posted on Apple’s site doesn’t work for iTunes.

I made a video explaining the proper way of changing your iTunes 10 icon. It’s pretty simple. If you like written guides, jump below the video.

  • Download an iTunes 10 icon. You can find a bunch posted on TechCrunch. Note that you can’t just use any picture by changing it’s extension to .icns, it should be a properly designed icon file.
  • Quit iTunes 10 from your dock.
  • Open Finder > Applications and select iTunes.
  • Right click iTunes and select “Show Package Contents”.
  • Go to Contents > Resources.
  • Find “iTunes.icns” and copy it to your desktop for backup.
  • Find the new icon you downloaded above and make sure its named “iTunes.icns”. If not, rename it.
  • Replace it with the original icon simply by pasting it. You will be asked for an administrator password.
  • You don’t have to log out. Just relaunch iTunes.

Google will be letting businesses embed their company logos in Google maps. The embedded logos will be seen across all Google maps applications and APIs used by developers including in Apple’s Maps.app.

Sponsored Map icons are being offered as a limited beta to companies in the U.S. with multiple locations and a well-known brand. Participation in this beta does not affect visibility on the map; the new feature is only available to businesses that already appear on the map, and whose default icons can be swapped out for their logo.

Coming shortly in a few weeks the feature will also be available in mobile phones. So every time you make a Google maps search and zoom in to an area you will see sponsored company logos.

Clicking on logos will reveal store hours of operation, product inventory, pictures and videos.

This should prove to be a great feature that everyone can benefit from. Advertisers can be more visible to their customers and customers can easily find what they are looking for by recognizing a brand logo. And of course, Google will make a ton of money.

However, there is good news:

According to the folks at iSpazio, @comex is in possession of two exploits for the JailBreak of 4.1 and 4.2 firmwares.

The first one is a Userland type similar to JailBreakMe that exploits holes found in iOS software. Similar exploits used by JailBreakMe were found vulnerable and patched by Apple in a firmware upgrade.

The second one is a bootrom exploit like Blackra1n, which is more complex and will take more time to release. Bootrom exploits, unlike Userland refer to a hardware inside the device. To patch these exploits Apple has to change the internal components of the device.

So stay tuned for the release and make sure you don’t upgrade to 4.1 before getting a word from The Dev Team.
