CloudMagic is a free browser extension that adds spotlight search like functionality to your Gmail. It’s super fast and occupies little space.
Currently available for Chrome and Firefox (Windows and Mac) and only for Gmail and Google Apps email users. The creators are planning on releasing versions for other email clients like Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL and services such as Google docs. All that said this extension is a must have for any Gmail user. Take a look at the video demo to see the magic.
Gmail recently added a new feature that allows US and Canadian users to make calls right inside their Gmail account. The feature is fully integrated into Google Voice and works great. However, Google Voice is only available in US right now so users outside US will not be able to add credits to their account and make paid calls.
If you live outside US you can set your Gmail interface language to English (US) and you will get the “Call phone” option in your chat box.
“Smoking Hot Bartenders” is a recent spam spreading like wild fire on Facebook. Obviously the site is spam where a user is required to fill in a form (i.e. offer) in order to access “Smoking Hot Bartender” pictures.
The spam uses a genius technique with which a user even if you decline to fill in the form and close the window will be vulnerable.
If you take a look at the site cutebabesbartending.info you will see how this viral scheme is being executed. The first thing you see when you land on the site (most likely from Facebook where you are already logged in) is a picture of some hot girls and a link to click through. The updated page does not have a link and you cannot scroll down the page (They are probably using a Javascript code to force you to remain scrolled up), naturally you will click the picture when you can’t do anything else. The key to the scheme on the previous version of the page was in the link.
Back in 2007, when Google released the newer version of Gmail, you could still switch to the old version by clicking a link at the top right navigation bar. Then they moved the link to the bottom, and it’s still there.
If you click the link and switch to the old version now, you are greeted with the following message:
“You’re using an old version of Gmail which will be retired in September. At that point, you’ll be redirected to a basic HTML view. To get faster Gmail and the newest features, please upgrade to a modern browser.”
Alright, that’s pretty clear.
“upgrade to a modern browser”, Ah, I am using Chrome. Poker face.
On Wednesday, Apple released firmware 4.0.2 that patches all the security holes exploited by JailbreakMe. These holes are extremely vulnerable and leave out spots for malicious JailbreakMe variants that aren’t out yet, but eventually will.
The good news is that Apple patched all the holes, the bad news is, they left out and abandoned all iPhone 2G and iPod Touch 1G users. No update released for them.
Luckily the Jailbreak community, specifically @saurik is hard at work to release a Cydia package that will debug the holes for all firmwares and all devices. According to the dev team it will be released very soon after some testing is done.
So you have an iPad and you use Google Chrome, but you want your Chrome bookmarks synced with your iPad. Since iTunes will only sync your Safari bookmarks, you are left no choice but to find a workaround.
Here is one:
You can use Xmarks. This free service will seamlessly integrate with your web browsers and keep your bookmarks backed up and in sync. You should note that Xmarks has plenty of other features, however this post will only focus on its bookmark syncing feature.
